El Segundo Sol at the Fashion Show Mall is also celebrating all things Mexico on September 16th. “Loco Hour” includes special drinks and food at half price. The countdown is over.
For months, MGM Mirage, the managing partner of the $8.5 billion CityCenter, has tantalized the public with a reminder of how many days it would be before Aria, the centerpiece of the development, would be “revealed to the world.”
Today, the wait wound down to the final 24 hours, 3½ years after the implosion of the Boardwalk hotel that once occupied a portion of the Strip frontage and five years after planning began.

Aria was busy Tuesday with last-minute touch-up work throughout the building while journalists and VIPs took guided tours showcasing room technology, CityCenter’s public art and water features and its signature entertainment offering, Cirque du Soleil’s “Viva Elvis.”
On Wednesday, activity was even more brisk and the company was graced with a warm, sunny day for the final push before the opening.
The Aria Hotel-Casino is at the heart of CityCenter, a 67-acre complex of hotels, condominiums and retail on the Las Vegas Strip and the most expensive private construction project in US history.

Tuscany Suites and Casino is a relatively new “locals” casino on Flamingo Road, a short distance east of The Strip
The Tuscan styled complex consists of several hotel buildings and the main casino building which houses the gaming area, the bars, restaurants, front desk and more. There are four restaurants: Tuscany Gardens (Fine Italian Dining,) The Cantina (casual Mexican,) Marilyn’s Cafe (24 Hours,) and Beachfront Coffee .
Two dudes (sounding like a quartet) “Cool Change” perform six nights a week in the Piazza Lounge. This intimate lounge is jam-packed with couples dancing on the weekends.

I got in on an internet special: $19.50 per night for four nights. My room had two huge beds, a sitting area with desk & chair, sofa, sofa-chair and cofee table. Then there was a small kitchenette with table/chairs, plenty of cupboards, a sink, small refrigerator, and a coffee-maker.
Although Las Vegas hotel construction aien’t what it used to be (there’s a sense that some parts of the hotel are made of cardboard,) the room was really commodious and comfortable, and well appointed. I was completerly surprised by the spaciousness of the room, and very satisfied.

Last week, the president of the American Gaming Association offered his opinion that legalized online gambling is the future in the United States.
Frank Fahrenkopf runs the organization responsible for representing the giant casino operators. On the board of the AGA are such gambling executives as Steve Wynn, Gary Loveman of Harrah’s Entertainment, and Dan Lee of Pinnacle. This group has extensively lobbied in the past to keep Internet competition at bay by banning it.
But now, giant land casino resorts are next to impossible to finance, and revenues are dropping as travel becomes too expensive for many gamblers. And a new vision is taking place at the American Gaming Association.
Fahrenkopf sees the legalization and regulation of Internet gambling as key to Congressional budgets. Fahrenkopf, who knows politics from his days as chairman of the Republican Party during the Reagan Presidency, says in an interview with the Reno Gazette, “…any Congressman or Senator who introduces a piece of legislation that is going to cost something will also have to show how they are going to pay for it, either by cutting spending in one place or raising taxes in another. So we know under those circumstances, they will be looking around at a place to get additional revenue.”
Fahrenkopf asserts that there may be billions in revenue for the federal government through taxation of online casinos. And it’s clear through his statements that some of his members are rethinking online gambling.
The net result is that a lobby dedicated to preventing any incursions by Internet casinos now may reverse itself, pressing for online gambling as best for all concerned.
