The last time the full Moon and the spring equinox coincided this closely (4 hours apart)\u00a0was in March\u00a02000, but the last time they occurred on the same date was on March 20,\u00a01981!<\/p>\n<p>*  <script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<!-- LVBC BLOG RESPONSIVE -->\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3305383693358973\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"8378569513\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>This full Moon is also a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/news\/astronomy\/astronomy\/what-supermoon\">supermoon<\/a>,\u00a0meaning the Moon will be nearly at its closest to Earth for the month of March.\u00a0It\u2019s the year\u2019s third (and final) of three straight full supermoons. This means that the Moon may \u201cappear\u201d brighter and bigger than normal, provided the night sky is clear and\u00a0dark.<\/p>\n<h3>THE FULL MOON AND\u00a0EASTER<\/h3>\n<p>Did you know: Easter Sunday (in the Western Christian Church)\u00a0<em>\u200b\u200b<\/em>\u200b\u200bis celebrated on the\u00a0first Sunday after the\u00a0full Moon that occurs on or just after the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.almanac.com\/content\/first-day-spring-vernal-equinox\">vernal equinox<\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since the full Moon\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">AND<\/span>\u00a0the vernal equinox both fall on March 20 this year (in North America, at least), you might expect that Easter Sunday would be on the following Sunday, March\u00a024.<\/p>\n<p>However, for simplicity\u2019s sake, the Church set a fixed date for the equinox, March 21.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Additionally, the Church does not rely on the date of the astronomical full Moon, but rather the ecclesiastical full Moon, which occurs on the 14th day of the ecclesiastical lunar month. The date of the ecclesiastical full Moon may fall one to\u00a0two days before the astronomical full Moon.
