<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>“<b>Alice’s Restaurant Massacree<\/b>“, commonly known as “<b>Alice’s Restaurant<\/b>“, is a satirical\u00a0<a title=\"Talking blues\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Talking_blues\">talking blues<\/a>\u00a0song by singer-songwriter\u00a0<a title=\"Arlo Guthrie\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arlo_Guthrie\">Arlo Guthrie<\/a>, released as the title track to his 1967 debut album\u00a0<i><a title=\"Alice's Restaurant (album)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice%27s_Restaurant_(album)\">Alice’s Restaurant<\/a><\/i>. The song is a deadpan protest against the\u00a0<a title=\"Draft lottery (1969)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Draft_lottery_(1969)\">Vietnam War draft<\/a>, in the form of a comically exaggerated but essentially true story from Guthrie’s own life: he is arrested and convicted of dumping trash illegally, which later leads to him being rejected by the\u00a0<a title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Draft_board\">draft board<\/a>\u00a0due to his criminal record of littering (and the way he reacted when the induction personnel brought it up). The title refers to a restaurant owned by one of Guthrie’s friends, which plays no role in the story aside from being the subject of the chorus.<\/p>\n<p>The song was an inspiration for the 1969 film also named\u00a0<a title=\"Alice's Restaurant (film)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice%27s_Restaurant_(film)\"><i>Alice’s Restaurant<\/i><\/a>. The work has become Guthrie’s\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Signature song\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Signature_song\">signature song<\/a>\u00a0and he has periodically re-released it with updated lyrics.
