On some far off planet called New Jersey, where the\u00a0men are as hard as grey sky\u00a0and the women are as\u00a0attractive as Marisa Tomei<\/strong>, the film “THE WRESTLER<\/strong>”\u00a0was crafted.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

At least the movie\u00a0was supposedly filmed in New Jersey.\u00a0 Wait a minute, it has to be from a planet called New Jersey,\u00a0 I’ve never seen human beings like that on this planet.\u00a0 At least not as many in one place, not as many who have gone astray<\/em>, not as many who are so far from the PTA, and the FTA, and the CIA.\u00a0 But then again, that’s a Western perspective…\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mickey Rourke<\/strong> as Randy ‘The Ram’ Robinson<\/a> is a fading professional wrestler who’s holding on to his career and his life, as both are slipping away.\u00a0 He is proud of his trade and accepts the trade-off of having “small change” and a broken body for\u00a0having self-respect; \u00a0it’s just part of the deal.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The fix is in, Randy feels,\u00a0and the fat cats who\u00a0ride in\u00a0limos have the limos but no real skills.\u00a0 Randy has skills and talent, and long hair, and Marisa Tomei<\/strong> (as Cassidy – a striptease artist with a heart of gold.)<\/a>\u00a0 He is his own boss (most of the time)\u00a0and\u00a0lives in a single family dwelling\u00a0(a trailer in a seedy trailer park,) and fans sometime ask him for an autograph.<\/p>\n

When times get tough-er, Randy takes a job behind a deli counter.\u00a0 He slices and dices – until\u00a0smacked with the undeniable reality\u00a0that\u00a0living\u00a0his\u00a0true destiny – and loosing, is better than success\u00a0in living a life without passion\u00a0.\u00a0 He goes back to “take it to the limit – one more time.”<\/p>\n

Bruce Springsteen soulfully garbles the theme to “THE WRESTLER” (Written by Bruce Springsteen)<\/a> in another haunting, distant Springsteenian tune, also named “THE WRESTLER.” <\/p>\n

“Goowrgish”<\/em> Marisa Tomei’s dual performance as Cassidy, and the mother, may win her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Mickey Rourke is also a top contender – for Best Actor – if you havn’t heard.
