Celebrity Visitors

For many years, from the time Graceland opened to the public on June 7, 1982, the tour guide staff informally kept a list of the celebrities who visited. We’ve missed a few names along the way and, unfortunately, we did not always keep track of the dates. Once we created this feature for the web site, record-keeping of celebrity visits became a bit more formalized. Our list is updated continually as more celebrities visit and we continue to add names we missed from years past whenever someone recalls one. If you know of someone we missed and, please do let us know and we’ll add the name if we can document the visit. In all the hubbub around here, word sometimes doesn’t get to the web staff to post. E-mails from fans to help out are always appreciated.

Is this the supermarket of the future?

Getting out the car is overrated
Getting out the car is overrated

Is this the supermarket of the future?
This solution claims to improve customer service, maximise convenience, increase product choice and cut queuing times – all while lowering costs for the vendor

Picture the scene. You’re on your way home when you remember the fridge is empty but you don’t have a pound for the trolley and parking is a nightmare. Or you promised to pick up a six-pack of beer en route to a friend’s party but it’s pouring with rain and parking is still a nightmare.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could pick up a few essentials without getting out of your car?
Russian inventor Semenov Dahir Kurmanbievich filed a patent for a drive-through supermarket that would make all that possible.

NEW FEMINIST CAUSE: Going Topless on #GoTopless Day. Don’t Stare, You Sexist!!

NEW FEMINIST CAUSE: Going Topless on #GoTopless Day. Don’t Stare, You Sexist!!

It’s getting harder to keep track of all the different feminist causes for women. There’s body shaming, fat shaming, the nonexistent pay gap thing and growing super long pubic hair… well now it’s just going topless in public. Because men can go topless in public. Therefore women should go topless. Because equality. Also boners.

That’s right, women took to the streets of New York without shirts or bras. Their nipples were free. Their words, seriously. #FreeTheNipple is real. Welcome to Boobfest 2015. And really, there are worse things. Because I like boobs. And I generally like fests.

.
But it does beg the question, why can men go without a shirt and women can’t? – Bro-tip: if you have giant manboobs, maybe you should cover them up– Is it the male patriarchy again? No, not really. It’s actually because men and women are different. Yeah, yeah, sexism, blah, blah, I know. Men and women. Different. A woman’s chest has breasts, and they’re used best in feeding a child. Also, motor-boating. So give it a rest. Woman’s breasts, therefore, are used in a sexual/reproductive function, where a man’s nipples are decorative only. Decorative for what, jury’s still out. It’s kind of God’s equivalent to letting angels toss tinsel on the tree. He wanted them to feel useful, but at the end of the day, it’s not a pretty sight.

These same women parading around without shirts, nipples bouncing about, are the same women who insist we celebrate breast-feeding. Which, by the way, totally different than walking downtown with the knockers hanging out. Feeding a baby vs. causing a traffic accident… Not the same. But this point only goes to show that men and women are different (more sexism) and our bodies are used for different things. Sorry, ladies, men cannot feed babies with their man nipples. I know, I know, biology is so unfair Read more

Why tomorrow’s [TODAY’S 11/25] full moon is especially important

Story from HelloGiggles.com

Anna Gragert / November 24, 2015 5:30 pm

hellogiggles

The moon is at it again, guys. And this time it’s going to help us let go of the past as we prepare for Jack Frost’s winter reign.

Tomorrow night [TONIGHT 11/25,] the full moon will appear in all its spherical glory, and Refinery29 kindly pointed this out. But, this isn’t any old full moon – it’s actually known as the Mourning Moon. Other societies refer to it as the Snow Moon or Fog Moon. Certain Native American tribes prefer to call it The Moon When Deer Shed Antlers. And speaking of shedding, this special moon is symbolic of autumn’s end and winter’s beginning.

According to Pagan traditions, the Mourning Moon is meant to signify a time of evolution. As this moon rises in the sky, it is recommended that we let go of the baggage we’ve been holding on to. We must cleanse ourselves as we reflect on this year’s happenings. Specifically, we must let go of anything that’s weighing us down before the new year begins.

If you’d like to awaken your inner witch or wizard, there are several cleansing rituals you can perform beneath this Mourning Moon. First, think of all the past worries and problems you want to let go of. This can be something as simple as the splurge-y dress you bought yesterday that maybe you shouldn’t have bought yesterday, or as complex as a difficult breakup. Then, you can write all these memories down on a piece of paper and submerge it in a cup of water (since this element is connected to the Mourning Moon). That way you’re literally cleansing yourself of past baggage.

Military service comes in many forms: Storming a beach in Europe, cradling a child after a hurricane, sealing seams on barrage balloons.

After the Civil War, many Americans began to honor soldiers killed in the line of service with ceremonies in the spring, when flowers could be picked and laid on their graves. In 1868, a group of Union veterans established Decoration Day, the predecessor of Memorial Day, declared a Federal holiday by Congress in 1971.

Although Memorial Day has its roots in the Civil War, it now honors deceased veterans of all U.S. wars. This Memorial Day, we’ve compiled photos from 1863 to the present in recognition of the men and women who have served their country. Visit Gallery

Friday’s Trifecta: Supermoon, Solar Eclipse, Spring Equinox

Solar Eclipse
Solar Eclipse

Story from NationalGeographic.com
By Andrew Fazekas, National Geographic
PUBLISHED MARCH 18, 2015

This week sees a rare combo of total solar eclipse, perigee moon, and the first day of spring.

A total eclipse occurs when the moon comes between Earth and the sun, casting a lunar shadow onto the Earth’s surface along a narrow, 62-mile-wide (100-kilometer) path. Because this “black hole” effect lasts for only a couple of minutes, totality ends up being a truly rare event for any single spot on Earth—occurring about once every three centuries for each geographical location.

Friday’s eclipse will race across remote regions of the North Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean, so only a relatively few lucky souls will be able to see it. But people in large parts of Europe and in northern areas of Africa and Asia will get to enjoy at least a partial solar disappearing act.

Adding to the uniqueness of the total eclipse, it falls on the vernal equinox, which officially occurs at 22:45 GMT (6:45 p.m. EDT) and marks the beginning of spring. While the occurrence of an eclipse on the equinox is considered a cyclical event and is not that rare, this celestial combination won’t occur again until 2034 read more…
