EASTER – Sunday April 12, 2009!

Easter Eggs
Easter Eggs
“Easter [] is an important annual religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.[1] According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead three days[2] after his crucifixion. Many Christian denominations celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter Sunday[3] (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday), two days after Good Friday. The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to be between A.D. 26 and 36.”

“Easter also refers to the season of the church year called Eastertide or the Easter Season. Traditionally the Easter Season lasted for the forty days from Easter Day until Ascension Day but now officially lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. The first week of the Easter Season is known as Easter Week or the Octave of Easter. Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of prayer and penance.”

“Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. Easter falls at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the cycle of the Moon. After several centuries of disagreement, all churches accepted the computation of the Alexandrian Church (now the Coptic Church) that Easter is the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the first moon whose 14th day (the ecclesiastic “full moon”) is on or after March 21 (the ecclesiastic “vernal equinox”)” read more from WIKI…

Easter Bunny
Easter Bunny

“The Easter Bunny is very similar in trait to its Christmas holiday counterpart, Santa Claus, as they both bring gifts to good children on the night before their respective holiday. Its origin is disputed but the character was mentioned as early as 1600; some trace it to alleged pre-Christian fertility lore,[1] others to the role of the hare in Christian iconography”
“The Easter Bunny is a mythical character depicted as an anthropomorphic rabbit. In legend, the creature brings baskets filled with colored eggs, candy and toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter. The Easter Bunny will either put the baskets in a designated place or hide them somewhere in the house for the children to find when they wake up in the morning” read more from WIKI…

Just the Full Moon
Just the Full Moon

“Historically the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now the northern and eastern United States kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to the recurring full Moons. Each full Moon name was applied to the entire month in which it occurred. These names, and some variations, were used by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior” read more from The Old Farmers Almanac…

“The full Moon name for this month is Full Pink Moon. This full Moon heralded the appearance of the grass pink, or wild ground phlox—one of the first spring flowers. It is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon” read more from The Old Farmers Almanac…

‘Luxury resort bargain shopping” – Los Angeles Times Blog Story

Las Vegas Strip
Las Vegas Strip, Northbound-LA Times photo

I was browsing the LA Times Blog and found an interesting story. The post is filed under “The Movable Buffet: Dispatches from Las Vegas by Richard Abowitz”

Basically the article addresses bargain hunting for Las Vegas Resort Hotels in the valley-economy of 2009 Las Vegas.

Abowitz:
“I have never suggested on this blog the best resorts to stay in Vegas. It seems self-evident that it really is about dollars. Obviously, a family with children may enjoy Circus Circus more than someone else who might find the older property only a great place to gag on the smell of stale cigarettes. But the Strip is meant to be explored; you can stay at Bellagio and still head to Circus Circus with the kids for a brief visit.”

“The problem is really money. How much do you want to spend for a hotel room you may not spend much time at during your vacation? And, as many travel writers have pointed out, warehousing yourself on the Strip has never been cheaper. If you want to fork out around $35, you can probably find a room at, say, Imperial Palace on a weeknight. But the plunge in room rates so dramatically over the last six months has meant that, for the first time, even the most luxurious hotels in Vegas can be rented at unbelievably low rates. So, I have a new hobby. I love luxury resort bargain shopping for staycations. You will get more out of this practice than I do, because the offers and specials really are geared to bringing tourists here. Also, the discount potential increases the more nights you stay at a resort, and I am going places only for a single night” read more from the LA Times…

April Fools’ Day or All Fools’ Day, although not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on April 1. The day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends, family members, enemies, and neighbours, or sending them on fool’s errand, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. Traditionally, in some countries, the jokes only last until noon: like UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa, someone who plays a trick after noon is called an “April Fool”.[1] Elsewhere, such as in Ireland, France, and the USA, the jokes last all day read more from Wikipedia…

**Colfax Avenue’s “Melrose Avenue Stretch” is an area of Colfax stretching East from downtown Denver to Denver’s Greektown near Denver East High School, which boasts of some famous alumni including actors: Douglas Fairbanks, (Silent Film Actor) Harold Lloyd, Hattie McDaniel, TJ Miller, Don Cheadle and Pam Grier; Musicians: Paul Whiteman, Donnette Thayer, Reese Roper, Dianne Reeves, Jamie Laurie, Bill Frisell, and Philip Bailey, Andrew Woolfolk and Larry Dunn [of Earth, Wind and Fire,] Chuck E Weiss and Folk Queen: Judy Collins; Beat Icon: Neal Cassaday, Jack Swigert [NASA astronaut] and writer, Sidney Sheldon.

The following story was originally published March 26, 2009:
“Kato Kaelin: From house guest to wedding guest” – LasVegasSun.com story By Melissa Arseniuk · March 26, 2009.

“America’s most notorious houseguest, Kato Kaelin, is about to make his Vegas debut as Sin City’s most notorious wedding guest.”

“Kaelin will assume the role of a “celebrity wedding crasher” in Planet Hollywood’s off-Broadway show, “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” for two weeks. His first performance will be tomorrow [March 27] night and the actor will reprise the role through April 9.”

“Kaelin will arrive in Las Vegas this afternoon [March 26] and will be attending the celebrity-studded classic rock showcase at the Hilton, Monster Circus, this evening.”

“The 50-year-old actor sprung into the spotlight in 1994 during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Once a struggling actor, Kaelin had been staying in Simpson’s guesthouse on the night the NFL All-Star’s ex-wife and lover were allegedly murdered. Kaelin served as a witness during both of Simpson’s trials and his inconsistent testimony and foggy memory led prosecutor Marcia Clark to call him a hostile witness.”

“Las Vegas Goes Dark for Earth Hour,” By Sherry Swensk • March 26th, 2009 • 8:19 am – LasVegasNow.com.

Earth Hour Las Vegas
Earth Hour Las Vegas

“The lights of the Las Vegas strip will go dark this Saturday night, promoting a new show called, “Concern for Climate Change.” “It’s not really a show, but a showing of support for a growing cause. Nearly all of the strip and off-strip hotel casinos will be turning out the lights on marquees and non-essential exterior lighting between 8:30 and 9:30 P.M. Saturday night, March 28th for Earth Hour.”
“From Landmarks like the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign… to Fremont Street, where the big canopy will go dark and glow necklaces will be handed out to 5,000 guests! (Can you imagine 5,000 people groping around in the dark with those super tall specialty drink glasses? That could put someone’s eye out! Just kidding.) Las Vegas will be among 2500 cities worldwide helping to shed light on climate change.” read more from LasVegasNow.com…
