The DaVinci Machines Exhibition, on loan from the Museum of Leonardo DaVinci in Florence, Italy, contains over 60 hand-crafted inventions built from Leonardo’s 500 year old designs and is the life work of three generations of Florentine artisans, who have painstakingly brought to life the creations by the brilliant scientist, inventor and artist Leonardo DaVinci.
With over 60 machines on display, many of which are interactive, the collection features replicas of the major and most striking inventions of the original Renaissance Man. The main features on display include the “bicycle”, “spring powered car”, “hang glider” and the “air screw”, a precursor to the helicopter and for the first time ever, the secrets behind Leonardo’s legendary robotic lion.
This exhibition presents over 60 models grouped in themes: War machines, Flying machines, Nautical & Hydraulic machines, as well as devices illustrating the Principles of Mechanics. The interactive machines are a popular aspect of each exhibition as visitors can touch and handle these models to gain a first-hand appreciation of how they work. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings accompany each model. read more…

In my mind way up on top of that pedestal those irresistible, slinky, rock & roll back-up singers never seem to get the credit they deserve.
From ALuckyDogLife.Blogsotop.Com
“Did I mention that Steely Dan is a favorite? Or that I have a thing for red leather? And that I always seem to focus on the female backup singers as much as the star of the show when attending a concert ? I’m working on that with my shrink” Well, check out the middle backup singer in the Kid Charlemagne video below. Red leather pants and a rock babe attitude. Oh my. You get to enjoy a great song, too. [Sorry I don’t have the other gals names in this song.]
From LVBC:
She is the great back-up, girl singer/singer Caroline Leonheart-Escoffery with features as fine as wisps of smoke, who moves like gentle ocean waves, and who blooms like a flower at Steely Dan’s live shows and elsewhere. A singer in her own right, she has soothed us with so many righteous STEELY DAN SONGS.
Here she is taking the lead on the soulful DIRTY WORK singing with the other Embassy Brats: Cindy Mizelle, and Catherine Russell.

The Embassy Brats are: Carolyn Leonhart, Cindy Mizelle, and Catherine Russell.
The beyond fine drumming on Kid Charlemagne by Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. And the ridiculously out-of this-world guitar solo is by rock virtuoso, Larry Carlton, I think.
Absolutely can’t wait for STEELY DAN THE MUSICAL…

Bang! Heineken does it again… “Love Letter” by Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes is featured in a beer TV commercial. Clairy Browne is a red-hot 50s rock & roll diva in 2012.
Here’s Clairy Browne, in the big house, as a blonde. The music seems to be a bit different than it is in the commercial, with more guitar and a bit less of the big horn. This video also seems to be tighter and the back-up girls are more in-sync.
This chick/band is the real-deal for reals. Bringing to mind the late, Amy Winehouse, Clairy Browne belongs to the 50s. I have a new screensaver.
This next video is closer to the Heineken ad; there is more of that big sax, and THE BIG BLACK HAIR. The drum and sax work so well together, like they’ve been tuned. I guess one can tune drums, to a point.
And here’s the high-quality Heineken commercial. It’s a very slick, silky video with great resolution and content. Clairy Browne is irresistible as the brunette vamp.
The last cool HEINEKEN discovery was Mette Lindberg and The Asteroids Galaxy Tour…
There will be yet another Full Moon Aug 31, 6:57 A.M. Las Vegas time.
“The August 31 Blue Moon will not be blue in color. This August 2012 Blue Moon will be called Blue because it is the second full moon of a month.”
The following article is from Earthsky.Org
According to modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the second full moon of a calendar month. Learn how this name came to be, in this post. The next Blue Moon is August 31, 2012.
August 2012 is a month with two full moons. And, by popular acclaim, that means it’s a Blue Moon month – but it’s Blue in name only. That’s because a Blue Moon is sometimes defined as the second full moon in a calendar month. The first full moon is August 1. The second full moon is August 31, 2012.
It’s very rare that you would see a blue-colored moon, although unusual sky conditions – certain-sized particles of dust or smoke – can create them. Blue-colored moons aren’t predictable. [So don’t be misled by the photo above.] The sorts of moons people commonly call Blue Moons aren’t usually blue. For more about truly blue-colored moons, click here.
Now on to folklore’s Blue Moons. Every month typically has a full moon (although sometimes February doesn’t). In fact, our word for “month” comes from the word “moon.” Most of the time, the names for full moons coincide with particular months or seasons of the year. So whether you define a Blue Moon as the second full moon in a month – or the third full moon of four in a season – the name Blue Moon accounts for times when there are more full moons than is ordinary.
Blue moon as second full moon in a month.[sic] In recent decades, many people have begun using the name Blue Moon to describe the second full moon of a calendar month.
“There are two more definitions for Blue Moon. It can be the third of four full moons in a single season. Or, someday, you might see an actual blue-colored moon.” read more from Earthsky.Org

“Most people in Las Vegas bet with chips, but Danny “The Count” Koker bets with cars. Known from his numerous appearances on Pawn Stars, this Sin City legend walks, talks and breathes classic American muscle cars. When he sees a car he wants, he will do whatever it takes to get his hands on it—including making on-the-spot cash offers to unsuspecting owners. On the HISTORY series Counting Cars, Danny and his team restore, customize and sell cars in a hurry, scrambling to keep their Las Vegas shop in the black. From vintage Thunderbirds to classic Corvettes, toy cars to souped-up sidecar motorcycles, Danny and the crew of Count’s Kustoms will stop at nothing to find and flip the greatest rides of all time.” read more from the History Channel
The Count – A.K.A. “Count Cool Rider” as the head of the Koker & Family ownership group “purchased Channel 33, Inc. (first air date, 1989.) Under the Kokers, KFBT was an independent station with a firmly local flavor and soon garnered much acclaim with features such as the scary B-movie night Saturday Fright at the Movies, hosted by Count Cool Rider, which aired at 10 p.m. Count Cool Rider was actually Danny Koker, one of the station’s owners, who has since gone on to become a respected builder of custom motorcycles, as well as a regular expert on the History channel series Pawn Stars and host of its spinoff, Counting Cars.”
PAWN STAR’S bike-expert and way-cool, Danny Koker – AKA -The Count owns, operates and performs at COUNT’S VAMP’D – a Las Vegas rock ‘n’ roll club that was co-owned by Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil. “Count Vamp’d is the old Feelgoods in Vegas that was opened by investors with Vince Neil of Motley Crue being a minority investor and marketer. Once Neil got divorced he had to sell his stake in the business and the name had to change. Vamp’d is a dracula-themed rock club, bar/restaurant. Yes, it’s all those things. Unfortunately, I have not caught a show there yet so I cannot speak to the concert setup or sound. I do know they attract national to local acts, George Lynch probably the biggest name that hits there regularly, and local Vegas Iron Maiden tribute band ‘Aces High’ is also a regular. The bar itself is very cool, has lots of guitars behind glass, cool decor, and rock-star type memorabilia.” Access a previous LasVegasBuffetClub post on COUNT’S VAMP’D

WASHINGTON (AP)
Federal officials are investigating whether Las Vegas Sands Corp. broke federal law by failing to report millions of dollars of potentially laundered money transferred to its casinos by two high-rolling Las Vegas gamblers, according to the Wall Street Journal. Read more…

Once again an early morning radio-show host was interviewing an author. The show was about the latest book on the powerful pugilist, heavyweight-champion, Sonny Liston. Since I “met”* Sonny Liston in Denver, the interview grabbed my interest. *”He was washing his car in his driveway and he shook my hand.”
Either during the course of the interview or reading it elsewhere, Sonny Liston’s kindness to much littler people – AKA kids – was brought up. I can vouch for that. He was indeed a gentle-giant, very soft-spoken and kind. I experienced not a trace of fear in the brief time I was in his presence. I don’t recall myself having any fear either.
“Someone finally has Sonny Liston’s back. Paul Gallender’s revealing biography, Sonny Liston – The Real Story Behind the Ali-Liston Fights, sheds new light on Liston’s tragic life and extraordinary talent.”
“In meticulous detail the author shows why the outcome of Sonny’s two bouts with Muhammad Ali had far more to do with what took place outside of the ring than in it. The truth about their one-round fight in Lewiston, Maine, will shock you.”
“When Sonny was forced to lie down against Ali in that fight, his reputation, career and legacy went down with him. He was barred from fighting anywhere in the United States. Just five-and-a-half years later, his wife, Geraldine, returned home to Las Vegas and found his body; he had been dead a week.”
“Most of the sporting press despised and feared Liston and was quick to demean and forget him after the Ali bouts. Because of the media’s unrelenting attacks most of what the world knows about Sonny has no basis in fact.”
“Sonny’s immense talent has been largely ignored but it has never been equaled. Half a century ago, he was to boxing what Babe Ruth was to baseball, what Tiger Woods became to golf, and what Usain Bolt is to track. The legendary Joe Louis called Liston the greatest heavyweight champion in history.”
“Gallender introduces you to a man you would have been proud to know – a man whose integrity, sense of fairness and depth of character was acknowledged for the most part only by his family, friends and children of every race. Once you start reading this book you won’t want to put it down.” read more…
Sonny Liston lived in Denver: “Subsequently Liston spent some months in Denver where a Catholic priest who acted as his spiritual adviser attempted to help him bring his drinking under control. After he won the title Liston relocated to Denver permanently, saying, “I’d rather be a lamppost in Denver than the mayor of Philadelphia.” More from WIKI…
