DENVER — Being crowned Miss Colorado 2011 was an amazing experience for Diana Dreman. It was pretty special for her mother, too.

It was 1973 when Rebecca King Dreman was also crowned Miss Colorado, before moving on to become Miss America in 1974.

“It’s been fun to be able to share history with her,” Diana said.

She is now gearing up for the Miss America competition that will be held in Las Vegas January 14.

It is the first time in the Miss America Pageant’s 90 year history that the daughter of a former Miss America will compete for that same title.

The 23-year-old CU graduate is hopeful.

All of this gives the family something exciting to think about during an otherwise tough time. Rebecca has melanoma, but is doing well.

Diana has now made fighting cancer part of her platform.

“It’s touching,” Rebecca said.

A Tale Of Two Cities: Tim Tebow’s Denver and Pat Sullivan’s Denver

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Early morning talk-radio in Denver was buzzing with tales of sheriffs and judges gone bad, church pastors visiting male-prostitutes for meth and sex, underage boys (10-12 years) blindfolded and performing sex acts for adult males in a social-club, a wealthy business man flying his private jet to Denver for drugs and sex with boys, alleged rooms with (hidden) drugs, rumors of the newly elected mayor visiting prostitutes, and it goes on and on… NFL, and NBA stars, police officers, judges, lawyers, educators, and prominent Denver business “leader’s” names reportedly on a “sex & drugs (mostly meth) with boys” list.

Denver’s Tom Martino writes about it on his website.

CCC SEARCHED – ARE WE TWO STEPS AHEAD?

The Troubleshooter Network has known for some time that the Community Country Club (Triple C, for short) was linked to the Pat sullivan case.

That’s because our informants, all who claim to have been victimized by Sullivan, say he visited there often to hook up with young men.

A few weeks ago, Troubleshooter investigator Jonathan Elinoff, went undercover inside triple CCC.

What he found were young men lined up waiting for sex. And he found what looked like drugs more from troubleshooter.com

Here’s another story from Tom’s website.

THE SULLIVAN SAGA & MORE

By now you’ve probably heard of the incredible story of a former decorated and respected sheriff who traded methamphetamine for sex. You may have also heard that my initial research and investigation into these allegations and a subsequent meeting with law enforcement authorities was the primary reason for the recent hasty police investigation that resulted in Pat Sullivan’s arrest.

I say “hasty” because two weeks after we met with police, Sullivan was arrested. Did police have hints of Sullivan’s wrongdoing prior to our meeting? We think so. But we felt the information was not so eagerly pursued until police felt I was going to air the the story.

First, some background: It all began with a phone call to my office from a young man who claimed Sullivan was engaging in “drugs-for-sex” prostitution involving mostly young men. It sounded too crazy to be true. But one of my investigators (Jonathan Elinoff) decided to check it out. His investigation led him to other alleged victims of Sullivan. Eventually we had what I felt was incriminating evidence, including some audio and video tape that appeared to capture Sullivan saying things that could incriminate him.

We gathered the interviews, hidden videos, hidden audio recordings and various documents — that appeared to tie Sullivan to young homosexual men and methamphetamines!

Here are some of the bare bones items being alleged by various young meth addicts: read more from Martino

Here’s where the latest sex scandal began – originally posted here on December 2, 2011.

Sullivan to face more charges in meth for sex scandal
Former Arapahoe County Sheriff will face a new set of charges when he returns to court on Monday.

Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan is already being held in jail for one count of distributing a controlled substance but now more charges are being filed against Sullivan including three felony counts and one misdemeanor.

Among the new charges are a count of attempting to influence a public servant, a count of pocession[sic] and a count of soliciting a prostitute.

Meanwhile, authorities say they have arrested the man who they believe supplied the meth Pat Sullivan used to exchange drugs for sex.

Investigators followed Sullivan to the home of Timothy Fasse in Denver. He was arrested on Tuesday and was charged with being in pocession[sic] of more than 2 grams of methamphetamine. Fasse is being held on $25,000 bond.

Sullivan is accused of offering methamphetamine in exchange for sex from a male acquaintance.

The 68-year-old former Arapahoe County sheriffis being held on a $500,000 bond. His next court date is December 5th where it’s expected he may face additional charges.

Sullivan appeared in court on Wednesday morning using a cane to walk. He appeared to have a bad limp. He was dressed in a jail-issued orange jumpsuit.

On 630 KHOW, Tom Martino and an investigator were onto the story weeks ago. They talked with meth addicts who say its was well known Sullivan would trade meth for sex.

A probable cause document released by authorities says two informants claim they had sex with Sullivan for meth or cash.
A sting was set up at a home that was outfitted with video and audio equipment. Sullivan was handling meth in the bedroom when he was arrested. There was a bag of meth on the bed and another bag on his person. Access this story

Memo from the editor of this blog: This story has just begun. Rumors of a murder are out there. The ex-sheriff was last employed at the Cherry Creek School System in Southwest, Denver.

“The investigation into Sullivan, 68, started with a traffic stop in Englewood on Nov. 17.”

“The man who was stopped consented to a search of his vehicle and police found drugs inside. The man then told police he had information about a high-profile figure. Sources tell 9Wants to Know that detectives were asked to come down to the Englewood Police Department in the middle of the night to hear the man’s story.”

“The information he provided jump started the investigation and lead to Sullivan’s arrest.” More from 9News.Com…

Fortune Valley Hotel in Central City, Colorado: Mini Hard Rock Rocking in the Hard Rocky Mountains

Fortune Valley Hotel Guitar
Fortune Valley Hotel Guitar - Photo by Jeffrey V. Smith

The drive up was easy, the drive down was a bit dicey for a minute, due to the snow that hit this little mountain town last night around midnight, so I’ve heard. I actually was there but I was in the room by midnight watching the tube and eating a Brooklyn Panini ($5.95) consisting of meatballs with marinara and a slice of cheese on Panini bread, brushed with butter, and toasted in that special panini-press. Included for the $5.95 are chips and soda. I normally don’t do a lot of these but I guess it’s called Panini bread.

I received a brochure with two free-money coupons and a coupon for a free room from the Fortune Valley Hotel Casino in Central City, Colorado two weeks ago. I made a reservation for Wednesday the 30th of November. One cash coupon was for November, the other for December. So I cashed one in Wednesday night, the other the following day, Thursday the 1st of December.

Fortune Valley Hotel Casino in Central City, Colorado
Fortune Valley Hotel Casino in Central City, Colorado - Colorado Casinos.net

This wasn’t my favorite hotel in the Central City/Black Hawk area – in fact it was one of my least favorite of the larger hotel/casinos on the mountain.

Fortune Valley has undergone a makeover.

The first clue was the slick technicolor, coupon-brochure that I got in the mail. It was first-rate, first-class. The images were crisp with vibrant colors, attractive people, lots of blue – the color – and guitars. The guitars representing the (brand) new theme of the hotel – Rock & Roll! Resplendent with dozens of guitars: hanging, in cases with other rock memorabilia and positioned here and there. Having owned an easy dozen guitars over the years, of course, guitars attract me. 60s and 70s rock posters of Jimi Hendrix, The Stones et-al, an exact replica of Peter Fonda’s “Captain America” bike from one of my favorite movies, Easy Rider, as well as other motorcycles and other hip eye-candy all work – to some degree – to create a warm(er) ambiance. Definitely an improvement over the last incarnation. Mirrors on the ceiling would raise the – somewhat stifling – low ceiling, raising the virtual headroom. Listening management? Ceiling mirrors would double the warmth/lighting factor of the casino (check out The Peppermill in Reno). If mirroring the entire ceiling would be cost-prohibitive maybe patches of mirrored ceiling would help.

My remaining problem with the casino is with the video/slot machines. It’s not easy finding a straight $.01/.05/.10/.25 Video Poker or Keno or Black Jack etc. machine. Most of the machines are of the new breed: Cartoon Video Machines. It’s not easy maintaining a serious Vegas Vibe with childish cartoon figures everywhere. But maybe that’s just me. How about more freek’n artistic machine-graphics? How about adult images? Not as in porn, but as in grown-up.

Aside from the gaming issues, my comments will address the basics. The hotel/gaming areas have a new energy. The look of that energy is warm, colorful and qualitative. The rock memorabilia, guitars, new blue lights, carpet and whatever else I might not have noticed contribute to a thumbs up for the makeover. I’ll return, but probably not to gamble. I’ll play my nickle 10-5 Video-Poker Bonus game at Ameristar, and I’ll play $.05 Multi-Card Keno at Ameristar and $.01 Multi-Card Keno at The Gilpin Hotel. I’ll return for the vibe, and try the other food outlets. In addition to the little shop where I got the Panini they have a small (one-trip, I think) buffet and a pizza area as well as what looks like a first-rate restaurant, Ardore”s “A Tuscan Steakhouse and Wine Experience” with what appears to be a vast wine store. Also the Guitar Bar seems to be a good place to hang out. There was a beauty sitting at the bar last night around 8:00 P.M. I didn’t but I’ll have to taste the video-poker machines on the bar top.

The hotel room (thanks Fortune Valley) was more welcoming than I remember from my last trip to FV. I remember that last room (from three years ago) as somewhat garish with garden green wall-paper and miscellaneous things that were off-putting. This trip, the room was nicely appointed with a basic black, grey and off-white theme with one wall and a huge matching pillow in yellow. There was a flat-screen on the wall, a small fridge, a desk and a very nice, new bathroom with a hair dryer. A little coffee machine was ready at the entrance.

Taking it to the Streets: Mexican-style outdoor food stands in Denver

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather
Mariscos D Mazatlan
Mariscos D Mazatlan

Mariscos D Mazatlan at 1063 Federal Blvd. specializes in seafood. In the evenings they prepare and serve tacos at this little stand in front of the restaurant. The current price for a taco here is $.99.

When I lived in Mexico I fell in love with the little outdoor Taco-stands that dot the streets all over Mexico. It wasn’t just about the food. It was also about the ritual. The ritual is about open-air (after dark the ritual sweetens.) It’s about camaraderie – people gathering around hot-food (under lights.) There’s something about being in close proximity to bare light-bulbs at night. Afternoons also work, but then something’s missing. Strangers and friends congregating around food at night, in the open-air, can be a mystic experience – at least dining al-Fresco in Mexico can be a mystic expierience.

There’s magic surrounding these little oases of refreshment. I’m thinking, maybe, they’re a throwback to a more primitive time. Or a bit later – gathering around the campfire with coffee and beans on the prairie after sundown. Different meats, usually carne asada (beef) or puerco (pork), but also more esoteric meats such as cabeza (head) parts such as: ojo (eye), oreja (ear), cachete (cheek), lengua (tongue), or labios (lips) are cooked on a flat-grill or sometimes in a wok-like, stir-fry pan. Then the little (usually 4-6″ in diameter) tortillas are warmed and topped with the meat. Salsas and extras such as: avocado or guacamole, cilantro, tomatoes, onions and lettuce are usually available, on the counter. Making the salsas and extras available for the customer to access is another facet that makes this form of dining so desirable. The customer can participate, not only in the ritual but in the gustational-balance. Huh? Sometimes, at other street locations or at restaurants, one can find Tacos Al Pastor: “Pork is marinated over one or two days in a combination of dried chiles and then slowly cooked with a gas flame on a vertical rotisserie”. A huge hunk of pork is flame-roasted on a vertical rotisserie then sliced and placed on a tortilla and served as above. I haven’t seen these tacos on Federal yet, but I’m thinking they will be available. Al Pastor is definitely my favorite taco, if it isn’t Baja fish-tacos. [Some information is from the pages of WIKI]

I’m betting you’re going to see more of these taco/food stands around Denver. Similar food stands like this in Mexico were the inspiration for Baja Fresh-type restaurants. Depending on the outlet, food is served from lunchtime into the night.

*

Federal Boulevard in Denver – West Evans north to Colfax Avenue particularly has recently sprouted a dozen of these little food-stands. Tacos, tortas, puppusas, hot dogs and more are served hot. Beverages and chips are often available. Probably because of Denver’s limited season these outlets are mostly mobile kitchen-trucks and trailers. My recollection of Mexico is that many of the taco-stands were more permanent structures. Especially in Ensenada, Baja California where the favored taco was a fish-taco. The stands were wood-framed, palapa-style.

Tacos Marlene
Tacos Marlene

This little trailer/stand sells hot tacos in front of the Tacos Marlene restaurant at 677 S. Federal Blvd. Tacos go for about $3.50, for two. The salsas and extras are on the table (right front.)

Tortas Truck in front of Avanza Food Market

This catering truck in front of The Avanza Food Market at 1320 S Federal Blvd. sells tortas, beverages, chips etc.

*

Marcelino's Tortas
Marcelino’s Tortas

This is Marcelino from Mexico City standing defiantly in front of his Tortas Truck. Marcelino strongly emphasized that he only sells tortas, no tacos. His tortas sell from $5.99 to $8.99.

Tacos on Federal Blvd.
Tacos on Federal Blvd.

Here’s another little trailer/stand on Federal selling fresh tacos.

*

Pupusas on Federal

Pupusas are a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick, hand-made corn tortilla that is usually filled with a blend of cheese, cooked pork (ground) and re-fried beans. This stand is near 4th & Federal.

*

Patas off Federal
Pigs Feet and Hot dogs just off Federal

How about some Pigs Feet or a Hot Dog from this stand beside a store on 8th & Federal.

So what’s the verdict? My opinion is that it’s a good thing for foodies. I’ll patronize the stands from time to time – if the food is decent. It’s the original fast-food outlet. Undoubtedly there are going to be naysayers who will complain about the encroachment of Mexican society on the city, or that the nearby restaurants will loose business. And then there will be those who say that the Mexicans are just taking back what originally belonged to them. Still others will say “face it, war is war.” I say food is food, though the point about the nearby heavily-invested restaurants loosing revenue is a germane consideration (of course this is not applicable to those restaurants parking a trailer on their own premises.) To a street person who’s gleaned sustenance from cans d’ garbage for survival, this is fine dining.

The disclaimer here is: if you’re a food-snob, if you leave a restaurant where there’s dust on the window-sill, if you demand spotless Sterling-silverware, or if you become queasy at the sight of a stained restaurant carpet you might want to go elsewhere. If you dine with the Natives whenever possible, and the food in these stands prove worthy of your time and cash (still to be determined) this may be a food destination for you.

In the immortal words of LA’s infamous Rodney King “People, I just want to say, you know, can we all get along?”

Sex in the City – Denver Style

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Revised June 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM.

Hooked
Hooked

The author of this story is not a journalist, just a plain joe with an opinion.

The radio woke me up after I fell asleep listening to the all night coast to coast show. Morning talker Peter Boyles was yapping about the newest (part two of the latest ) Denver Sex Scandal. It’s reported that the current sex business includes a leading mayoral candidate, lawyers, a district attorney as well as so-called business/community leaders of the Denver area.

The following is compiled from hearsay and information from printed text, from a couple of sources. It’s a synopsis gleaned the past three days from the radio, the pages of Westword.Com and KHOW.Com.

Since the following is politically tainted it very well could be a political hit-job. In other words the story could be totally fabricated in order to affect the outcome of a mayoral election. Keep in mind that politicians generally don’t have a working ethical-compass like artists, carpenters, doctors/scientists, electricians, musicians and the like.

MAYORAL CANDIDATE HANCOCK LINKED TO PROSTITUTION RING” – from KHOW.Com radio
Several years ago Denver Judge Edward Nottingham was accused of involvement in a prostitution sting. He resigned his gavel amid accusations that a prostitute *”claims he asked her to lie to investigators and hide[sic] that he paid her for sex.” Seems that one of the call-girls from the same or similar prostitution ring dropped a dime on Denver Mayoral candidate Michael Hancock after recognizing him in the media. The exact date is unclear. The mayors race will be decided very soon – today June 7, 2011 at 7:00 PM Mountain Time. Hancock is expected to win. The leading opposition candidate – Chris Romer – is the son of former Colorado Governor, Roy Romer – whom after leaving Colorado went on to become superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Printed records indicate that Hancock’s personal phone number and name turned up on a journal page along with information that he paid $275.00 for services, more than once. Hancock was a councilman at the time. These records can be accessed here

If Hancock wins this election and these allegations are proven, Denver is going to be in deep Kim Chi to use a well-worn phrase.

Let me say that this is not about trying to nail Hancock. He appears to be a good guy. In fact I would say that he appears to be a really good guy. Also I don’t have a problem with hookers per say. The real crimes here are the crimes of the better-than-thou lawmakers breaking the law. Doesn’t this sort of thing promulgate anarchy. Doesn’t it create anger and mistrust in the community.

I agree with the morning talkers that the double-standard is in overdrive here (my words.) When the legal bitches – and I don’t necessarily mean females – went after the Denver Johns (This was a prostitution sting that focused on poor working class “johns” that were hooking up with street hookers for a few bucks – their names and photos were routinely published on a television program called Johns TV.) nothing was covered up, nothing was glossed over. The Denver Johns were mostly poor, minority dudes. How come the main media is not publishing the names and photos of the so-called stellar community leaders? Huhh! C’mon Denver Post, radio and TV news stations, publish the damn names and photos. Let it fly… Whether or not Hancock is involved, shine a light on these hypocrites. I for one am not holding my breath. Keep in mind that these lawmakers jail and fine offenders for the same “crimes” that they are guilty of. “I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”

This same double standard has been going on for years and years. The old-boy club’s rules have been in effect for years and years. How DEEP is the cover-up. Why don’t YOU find out – and demand that the names and photos be published.

*From Channel 9 News: “9Wants to Know has learned Chief Judge Edward Nottingham of Colorado is expected to resign Friday after learning of new allegations filed against him from a former prostitute who claims he asked her to lie to investigators and hide that he paid her for sex.”

Is Denver’s Kirk Montgomery headed for the Big Time

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather
Kirk Montgomery
Kirk Montgomery

This very affable entertainment news dude on Denver’s TV 9 evening News, in my opinion, will be the next entertainment “star” from Denver. He’s already touched the big-time with some TV & Movie stuff. I wanted to go on record saying that this cat is a sure bet. I’ve been meaning to write this for some time now…

I’ve never seen him act in a movie – so what? Just watching him on the tube unveils his extreme character. Don’t take this in the wrong way but this guy could be another Disney character unto himself. My opinion is that that is where he should be. Listening Disney? I know you are! He’s that good. He has the ability to change from a handsome Entertainment TV Guy into a character that is as cute as a bathtub, rubber-duck.

There appears to be some-sort of an anti-Gaddafi rally in Denver, Colorado at the corner of South Colorado Blvd. and Evans

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Going on right now at 3:40 PM Saturday February 26, 2011. One of the signs we saw read: “Gaddafi is a terrorist” I think it was. Several flags – different that I’ve seen in Denver – were being waved in a group of, maybe, 35-50 persons who were shouting something, which couldn’t be discerned since our windows were up.

More later…
