What Is The Best Hotel In Las Vegas?

Repost By Zeke Quezada, About.com Guide
Sunday March 27, 2011

“So what is the best hotel in Las Vegas? There is no right answer, because the bachelor party is looking for one experience, the family is looking for another and those six people from Kelowna really just need a few penny slots to keep them occupied between shifts at the buffet. However, I have made a list of some of the best and the top three on that list are simply hard to beat for my money.”

* [sic] “Enocore at Wynn Las Vegas – Maybe it’s the idea of a daybed at Encore Beach Club or a long night at XS or the Mac ‘n Cheese bites at Society Cafe, it could be those, but truthfully, all I really need is an afternoon at Wazuzu and then a late afternoon spa treatment at Encore Spa. Drunken noodles and the Encore Escape Treatment and I am sold on Encore as one of my top three hotels in Las Vegas.”

* Palazzo Resort and Casino – The rooms are hard to beat but you’ll leave because you’ll want to catch a game at Lagasse’s Stadium, you want to learn something about tequila at Dos Caminos and the Blue Man Group, Jersey Boys and Phantom are three of the best shows on the Las Vegas strip. The pool area is spacious and spend any time at Canyon ranch Spa and you’ll be booking a return visit.

* Hotel32 at the Monte Carlo – This always comes as a huge surprise to everyone that asks me the “Best Hotel in Las Vegas” question. I am in love with this place, get me a loft room at Hotel 32 and I’ll see you in a week, I don’t even have to leave, but, I will leave and I’ll walk over to the small lobby and have a conversation with a Suite Assistant and they will make sure that everything is done just right. Room quality, customer service and a very personal touch, that is why you would pick Hotel 32 at Monte Carlo.

This police booking photo provided on Thursday Feb. 3, 2011 by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department shows Anthony M. Carleo, 29, from Las Vegas who was being held on felony armed robbery and burglary charges. Police say the Las Vegas man is suspected of the brazen armed robbery of $1.5 million in casino chips from the posh Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip on Dec. 14. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Carleo is the son of a Las Vegas Municipal Court judge.

LAS VEGAS — Police have arrested a 29-year-old Las Vegas man in the brazen armed robbery of $1.5 million in casino chips from the posh Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip.

AP / WPEC-CBS12.com
Las Vegas police said Anthony M. Carleo was the motorcycle-helmeted bandit who waved a gun, grabbed high-value casino chips and made off on a motorcycle before dawn Dec. 14. No shots were fired and no one was hurt. Police said then that they thought the same man robbed the Suncoast casino in northwest Las Vegas early Dec. 8.

Carleo was arrested at the Bellagio as part of an undercover police investigation, a person familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press. The person declined to be named because he was not authorized to publicly give details about the case.

Police spokesman Bill Cassell refused to give further details on the arrest besides saying it happened in Las Vegas.

Bail was set at $15,000 for Carleo on felony armed robbery and burglary charges. Court spokeswoman Mary Ann Price said Carleo would make an initial appearance in court on Monday morning. Carleo will not be required to appear when a judge reviews the charges on Friday, Price said. Read more from CBS12.Com

Resort will reopen Feb. 11 as Ravella

Ravella at Lake Las Vegas - LasVegasSun
Ravella at Lake Las Vegas, formerly the Ritz-Carlton - LasVegasSun

“The former Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas will reopen on Feb. 11 as Ravella.”
By HOWARD STUTZ
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

“Dolce Hotels and Resorts, which took over the 349-room nongaming property following its closure last May, took the name from the Southern Italian coastal town of Ravello.”

“Joseph Serrano, general manager of the Auld Dubliner Irish Pub and Restaurant in Lake Las Vegas’ MonteLago Village, didn’t really care what name was attached to the hotel.”

“The reopening means increased midweek business for his restaurant and the 35 shops and eateries at the outdoor retail area at the center of the 3,600-acre community that disappeared when Ritz-Carlton pulled out.”

“The fact that the hotel brings back business Monday through Thursday is really a huge driver for all the operators in the village,” Serrano said. “We’re all really encouraged about what the hotel’s reopening will mean to our business” read more from the LVRV.Com

Full Moon December 21, 2010

Adobe Moon in the City
Adobe Moon in the City

The moon will be 100% full Tuesday, Dec 21 at 12:15 A.M. Las Vegas time. (Full Moon names below)

“As Earth’s long shadow falls across the Moon, the part in the shadow will turn dark. It will look as though a chunk were missing from the Moon. About an 70 minutes later, the shadow will completely cover the Moon, an event known as “totality.” This will last for more than an hour, then the shadow will exit the Moon’s opposite side over another hour or so”

“The entire event will last just over 3.5 hours and can be seen from coast to coast. See table below for eclipse times and graphics for different U.S. time zones. Note that the eclipse begins on December 20 in the Pacific and Mountain time zones, and on December 21 in the Central and Eastern time zones” read more from StarDate.org

FULL MOON NAMES:

BACK EAST:
“Historically, the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now the northern and eastern United States kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to the recurring full Moons.”

“Each full Moon name was applied to the entire month in which it occurred. These names, and some variations, were used by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.” – The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

According to this information, The December full Moon is referred to as the: “Full Cold Moon”
“This is the month when the winter cold fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark. This full Moon is also called the Long Nights Moon by some Native American tribes.”

OUT WEST:
“American Indians gave names to each of the full moons to keep track of the passing year. The names are associated with the entire month until the next full moon occurs. Since a lunar month averages 29 days, the dates of the moons change from year to year. Here are titles most closely associated with calendar months.” – read more from The Old Farmer’s Almanac

One of those names for the December, 2010 full Moon is in the Shoshone (Shoshone – Great Basin, Nevada, Wyoming) language; that name is: “dommo-mea'” – meaning, winter.

The above information is from StarDate.com and The OldFarmer’sAlmanac.Com.

More Moon information, from Wikipedia:
“A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes behind the earth so that the earth blocks the sun’s rays from striking the moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, there is always a full moon the night of a lunar eclipse. The type and length of an eclipse depend upon the Moon’s location relative to its orbital nodes. The next total lunar eclipse will occur on December 21, 2010 at 0817 UTC[1].” read more from Wikipedia”

The Wicked Spoon Buffet at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

I’ve been getting a number of search inquiries on this website for something called The Wicked Spoon. Never one to miss an opportunity to give our readers what they want, here’s some scoop on The Wicked Buffet.

Well, The Wicked Buffet is the name of the new buffet at the New Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas. Although I’m out of town for the time being, I do know that the Cosmo is set to open today – December 15, 2010. What are the chances that the buffet is opening at the same time?

Buffet information will soon be posted on the main website pages. Although there’s not a tremendous amount of information on The Wicked Spoon as yet, here’s some info on The Cosmo Hotel:

Here’s a re-post from the Review Journal – December 12, 2010:
Make way for the Cosmopolitan
Hotel-casino is opening amid hopes it will lure new visitors, not take them from its neighbors

“Even before The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opens Wednesday, gaming industry analysts are saying that to succeed financially the hotel-casino will have to offer something different from what is found at other properties along the Strip.”

“The Cosmopolitan also needs to generate income for Deutsche Bank AG, which acquired the property out of foreclosure in 2008 and spent $3.9 billion to complete the 2,995-room hotel-casino.” read more about the financial stuff…

“Continuing: The 100,000-square-foot casino will feature 83 table games and 1,474 slot machines, according to the company.”

“Cosmopolitan officials also signed a deal with Cantor Gaming to run the property’s race and sports book. The book is expected to open in the first quarter of 2011, pending regulatory approval.”

“An agreement with Marriott International Inc. that will provide The Cosmopolitan with access to a database of travelers is also expected to help attract visitors.”

“The property features 36,000 square feet of high-end retail shops, including British-brand AllSaints and Beckley, a boutique featuring women’s clothing and accessories.”

“The Cosmopolitan is unique among Strip hotel-casinos in that its vertical design places shops, restaurants and other amenities on multiple floors throughout the two 50-story towers.”

Good luck on the opening Cosmopolitan.

Yet another Full Moon October 22, 2010 at 9:38 P.M. Las Vegas time.

FULL MOON NAMES from The Old Farmer’s Almanac
Historically, the Native Americans who lived in the area that is now the northern and eastern United States kept track of the seasons by giving distinctive names to the recurring full Moons.

Each full Moon name was applied to the entire month in which it occurred. These names, and some variations, were used by the Algonquin tribes from New England to Lake Superior.

This is the month when the leaves are falling and the game is fattened. Now is the time for hunting and laying in a store of provisions for the long winter ahead. October’s Moon is also known as the Travel Moon and the Dying Moon.

The following information and photos are from Western Washington University:

BACK EAST
In the Algonquin (Northeast to Great Lakes) language the name for the October full moon is: “pepewarr” or “white frost on grass.”
