“Cinco de Mayo (May 5) commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces in 1862. Since then, it has become a day to celebrate Mexican culture across the United States, but only in some parts of Mexico.”
“Where it all began: The city of Puebla (where’s that?) is the epicenter of Mexico’s Cinco de Mayo festivities.”
“Not to be confused with: The Mexican Independence Day, which takes place on Sept. 16 and celebrates Mexico’s independence from Spain.”

Cinco De Mayo: Celebrate Mexican History Across The U.S.
Limp Bizkit, the Phoenix Suns and your local Mexican communities offer up plenty of ways to party
By Rochell D. Thomas
“Every year on the fifth of May, Mexican flags can be spotted waving at homes and businesses across the United States. There are parades and dances. Schools and theater groups put on special presentations and bars offer drink specials. But despite what many people think, Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Fourth of July. (Mexico celebrates its independence from Spain on September 16.)”
“Though it’s a holiday commemorating the Battle of Puebla against the French in 1862, Cinco de Mayo has become an ethnic holiday that celebrates Mexican culture and the Mexican army’s never-give-up spirit. Mexican-Americans — and, really, anyone who likes to root for underdogs fighting the good fight — celebrate the holiday in many ways. Here, we list a few of the major festivities going on around the country on Wednesday (May 5) and beyond.” read more…
Full Moon Poster
c.2010-LasVegasBuffetClub.ComAccording to The Old Farmer’s Almanac the moon will be full Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at around 5:18 a.m. Las Vegas, Nevada time.
“American Indians gave names to each of the full moons to keep track of the passing year. The names are associated with the entire month until the next full moon occurs. Since a lunar month averages 29 days, the dates of the moons change from year to year. Here are titles most closely associated with calendar months” – Western Washington University. *FYI – In the mid-90s, when I was traveling around the southwest in a motor home, I happened to meet the great, great-grandson of the great, great, Apache leader Geronimo He was selling stones and trinkets from a hogan in the Arizona desert. I still have his phone number, I think. BC
I received this from the Cloud Foundation, please pass it on…BC
“For now, I’d like to be the first to tell you that this Thursday, March 25th, the March for Mustangs will take place not only by the White House in Washington DC but on the Las Vegas Strip, by the Los Angeles Federal Building and in front of the US Embassy in London! In D.C. we’re honored to have award-winning actress and advocate, Wendie Malick speak to the crowd at the rally. Wendie will be joined by long time advocate and advisor on the original 1971 Wild Horse and Burro Act, Hope Ryden; author RT Fitch, Filmmaker James Kleinert and many, many more! We are especially pleased to announce that country music artist Clay Canfield will be at the rally to sing his incredible song “Wild Horses” and more before we march to the BLM office with signs and banners.”
“TAKE A MOMENT FOR MUSTANGS Please spread the word on all the March for Mustang Rallies and support all the protests with calls to your Senators and Congress people on this important issue. Wild herds, like Clouds, are being managed to extinction with our taxpayer dollars by the very agency charged with their protection. Let’s make a big push for the mustangs during these rallies. On Thursday please call your on behalf of Cloud and all the wild horses! President Obama: 202-456-1111 and Congress: 202-224-3121.”
“When you reach your Representative and Senators, please ask to speak to the aide on the wild horse and burro issue. 1) Wild horses are being mismanaged in cruel waste of taxpayer dollars that is destroying the last of our wild herds in the West. 2) Vote NO on supplying funding for wild horse “preserves” in the East and Midwest– already there are now far more (36,000) wild horses in holding than in the wild where there may only be some 15,000 remaining. 3) Keep up the call for a moratorium on roundups and let everyone know that you love wild horses and burros in the wild and you vote! Or find and email your Senators and Congress person here on votesmart.org”

The BIG cat who likes getting wet and wild
by MICHAEL HANLON
“Most cats do not like getting wet – as anyone who has tried to bathe a moggie will know.
But as these pictures show, there’s always the exception to the rule. For the cat in question is a large male white Bengal tiger called Odin.”
“Six years old, and at the prime of his life, Odin lives at the Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Zoo in Vallejo, near San Francisco. He is about 10ft long from nose to tail, and is an excellent swimmer.” Read more and see more photos of Odin (older post from 2007)
Chinese New Year
By the Chinese Calendar 2010 is the Year of the Tiger, which is also known by its formal name of Geng Yin
Year of the Tiger
“Chinese calendar has been in continuous use for centuries. It predates the International Calendar (based on the Gregorian Calendar) in use at the present, which goes back only some 430 years. Basically, a calendar is a system we use to measures the passage of time, from short durations of minutes and hours, to intervals of time measured in days, months, years and centuries. These are fundamentally based on the astronomical observations of the movement of the Sun, Moon and stars.”
“Days are measured by the duration of time of one self rotation of the earth. Months are measured by the duration of time of rotation of the moon around the earth. Years are measured by the duration of time it takes for the earth to rotate around the Sun.” read more from ChinaPage.Com / print calendars…
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… FROM WIKIPEDIA “Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the “Lunar New Year” by English speakers. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year’s Eve is known as chú xī. It literally means “Year-pass Eve”.” read more from Wikipedia

Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl Brooklyn Decker passes namesake test
BY Stephanie Gaskell and Bill Hutchinson
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
Wednesday, February 10th 2010, 4:00 AM
Sports Illustrated babe Brooklyn Decker proved Tuesday night that she knows more about her namesake than just how to spell it.
The 22-year-old swimsuit cover girl was quizzed by the Daily News to see how much she knows about the borough where she has set up house with her tennis-playing hubby, Andy Roddick.
“Forgive me if I mess up. I’ve only lived there three weeks,” said the blue-eyed beauty, who wore a skin-tight pink minidress.
Decker, raised in North Carolina, didn’t know Borough President Marty Markowitz, but she sure knows the specialty at Junior’s.
“Cheesecake,” the 5-foot-9 stunner answered correctly. “Of course the model knows the cheesecake answer!”
She didn’t know that Brooklyn is known as the Borough of Churches, but she displayed her knowledge of local geography when asked to name four Brooklyn neighborhoods.
“What’s the largest park in Brooklyn?” she also was asked.
Breathing a sexy sigh of relief, she said confidently, “Prospect Park.”
“I didn’t do too bad,” Decker said of her 3-for-5 score.
Super Bowl Trophy - Eye On GamblingSuper Bowl Props, Live Betting offered by Las Vegas Sports Books
written February 5, 2010 By Jeff Haney EOG.com
Two of the three latest developments on the Las Vegas gambling scene earn enthusiastic plaudits. The third, not so much.
All Lucky’s sports books have joined the roster of those offering bettors a chance to wager on games while they are in progress. Bettors will be able to bet on the Super Bowl point spread and the over/under throughout the game Sunday. The lines will be updated, and betting reopened, during commercial breaks.
Lucky’s has 13 Nevada locations including the Plaza and Terrible’s in Las Vegas.
In addition, as part of their 24 standard-size pages of Super Bowl propositions, Lucky’s oddsmakers are featuring some imaginative cross-sport props, great for generating attention and starting conversations among fans, if not necessarily serious bettors.
Following is a sampling of the more creative “which will have more” props at Lucky’s:
— Phil Mickelson’s fourth-round score in the Northern Trust Open (-3.5) vs. Joseph Addai rushing yards (plus 3.5). The consensus on Addai’s rushing yards is sitting around 65. At first, there is no reason to assume Mickelson will shoot a 68 … until you consider that in winning last year’s Northern Trust, Mickelson shot 63, 72, 62, 72.
— Penguins-Capitals goals scored vs. Super Bowl touchdowns. This one also is trickier than meets the eye. The two most likely numbers for combined touchdowns are 6 and 7. Last time the Penguins and Capitals met, the posted over/under was (drumroll, please) 6.5.
— Daytona 500 cautions vs. Dallas Clark receptions. The most likely number for Clark receptions is 6. The past two Daytona 500s have yielded 8 and 7 cautions, which suggests that playing the cautions and waiting a week (the race takes place Feb. 14) for the result is the way to go.
— Rajon Rondo assists (plus .5) vs. Saints-Colts first-quarter points (-.5). The consensus first-quarter total is 10.5 points. Rondo has recorded 14, 12 and 12 assists in the Celtics’ past three games, and with nothing appearing out of the ordinary about Boston’s game with Orlando on Sunday, it’s tempting to stick with his hot hand.
— Fumbles lost in Super Bowl vs. Chelsea goals against Arsenal.
— UNLV plus UNR points in their games Saturday (-5.5) vs. Drew Brees first-half passing yards (plus 5.5) read more from EOG

The biggest full moon of 2010 will rise in the east tonight, and it’ll appear with a bright sidekick: Mars will cozy up just to the left of the supersize moon.
January’s full moon is also called the [*]wolf moon, according to Native American tradition associating this month’s full moon with wolves howling in the cold midwinter. (Take a moon myths and mysteries quiz.)
The 2010 wolf moon will appear 30 percent brighter and 14 percent larger than any other full moon this year, because our cosmic neighbor will actually be closer to Earth than usual.
The moon will be at its closest perigee—the nearest it gets to our planet during its egg-shaped orbit—for 2010 at 4:04 a.m. ET Saturday, reaching a distance of 221,577 miles (356,593 kilometers) from Earth read more from National Geographic.

On December 30, 2009 a German Shepherd called Buddy was dragged to death in Colorado. A Facebook group has responded – to “Demand Justice for Buddy.” Evidently a petition goal of 100,000 signatures has been met, however, you still might want to be a part of this.
“We the undersigned urge the court in Grand Junction, Colorado to give Steven Clay Romero, the man charged in the dragging death on December 30, 2009 of a German Shepherd named Buddy behind his truck for three miles the maximum penalty of three years in federal prison, $100,000 fine and one year probation for this horrific crime. Do not let this crime go unpunished for the horrible death of an innocent dog. Given Mr. Romero’s past criminal record, we feel he is a menace to society and this dragging death is only the beginning of what could lead to future unimaginable and tragic consequences.”
Update January 27, 2010 Two indicted in dog’s dragging death
“Two people were indicted late Monday by the federal grand jury in Denver for the death of a dog and subsequent cover-up. Buddy, a German shepherd mix, was dragged three miles up a steep, snowy road at the Colorado National Monument.”
“Steven Clay Romero, 37, of Grand Junction, did “knowingly torture, needlessly mutilate and needlessly kill” the dog, according to the indictment” read more from The Denver Post
“Romero will go before the Judge Thursday 1/27/10 at 3pm. He will be officially charged and held for trial. His sister was also arrested and is currently out on bond.”
The following information is from The Cloud Foundation Website and an email I received from The Cloud Foundation
“Read the new People Magazine Article & then call for immediate Congressional hearings on BLM”
“Dear Supporters, the excellent People Magazine article by Helin Jung starts out: Willie Nelson wants to know: “Why are there more horses asses than there are horses?” The country legend’s gripe comes from his concern for the American West’s wild horses and burros, which are being rounded up by the thousands and placed into holding corrals by the federal government’s Bureau of Land Management. The capture of 2,500 horses started in the Calico Mountains of Nevada last month, but the agency expects to round up a total of 12,000 of the estimated 37,000 horses on BLM land by the end of this year…”
“Read the whole article here on the People Magazine website, and then take action!

“The Real Reason Behind BLM’s Push to Remove Wild Horses: Is Ruby Pipeline the Smoking Gun?
“Wild horse advocates rally in Denver to stop roundups, ask Senator Udall for help in BLM investigation”
“Denver, CO (January 7, 2010)—The Cloud Foundation asks the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to reveal the truth behind removing healthy wild horses from the Calico Complex of northwestern Nevada. It does not appear to be coincidental that the multi-billion dollar corporate project, the Ruby Pipeline, would run through the Calico Complex—site of the controversial roundup of more than 2,500 mustangs and the Buckhorn Wild Horse Herd Management Area. BLM removed over 200 wild horses at Buckhorn in December 2009 without public notice” read more

Eagle Roundup of 550 Nevada Mustangs
“The BLM plans to leave only 100 wild horses on 670,000 acres of public land in Nevada that Congress set-aside principally for their use. They are now proposing to roundup and remove 550 “excess” wild horses in yet another inhumane winter roundup planned to begin February 7th.”

The model is Bernie Dexter of BernieDexter.com. Ms. Dexter embodies a similar, sweet-tart-sexiness like Bettie Page-A quality that lifted Ms. Page to the top-rungs of cheesecake modeling. The photos are devastatingly sexy yet playfully innocent-as wholesome as Apple Pie, even with the lingerie.
If I were comparing the careers of these two ladies, I’d say that Bernie Dexter seems to be a legitimate fashion model, whereas Bettie Page was more of a men’s magazine model, albeit both appear in similar outfits. *Ms. Dexter works in lingerie principally to sell clothing, and the late Ms. Page graced her lingerie for the express purpose of creating cheesecake photographs that were used to titillate dirty old men, and young boys. Well…There’s definitely one common-thread between these ladies: they both seem to really get in to their work.

BernieDexter.Com is apparently based in Portland Oregon. This is not an advertisement. However if I inadvertently advertise Ms. Dexter’s business on these pages, and that advertisement helps proliferate her business so that her photos show up on more webpages, so be it. I’ll take the all the blame.
She brings to mind a Chocolate-Raspberry, Creamcake with dark-chocolate frosting – or should I say cheesecake…
*When I “discovered’ Bernie Dexter, I had no idea just how successful this young woman is. She’s huge and she’s everywhere…how extremely cool. This is Pop-Culture at it’s finest…
