Time to find more ways to discredit Columbus.
You can start by reading from the Denver Columbus Day Parade Website, and then you can pick the information apart. You’ll surely find some gems to trash there.
The Columbus Committee is proud to announce that Father Hugh Guentner, will be our Parade Starter, George Falagrady, will be our Grand Marshall, Fred Marzano is our Italian of the Year, and Mike Abruzzi and Diana Frazzini are the Parade King and Queen. Congratulations to our 2012 Columbus Day Parade dignitaries!
In addition, here is a partial list of parade entries registered so far. Knights of Columbus honor guard, Russ Canino on the Sons of Italy float, Potenza Lodge and their Angel Cart, Lakewood Glass, Persichette Farms, Studio D Academy of Dance performing “Be Italian” from the Broadway musical “Nine,” the Italians of America, Bomaretto Pump, Sons of Italy Gruppo di Motocicletta, the Italian American Business Association, the Tirolesi Trentini, and the Fiori di Italia with last year’s float contest winner, the Pinta, to name a few read more…
Article and photos are from the Official DaVinci Machines Website.
The DaVinci Machines Exhibition, on loan from the Museum of Leonardo DaVinci in Florence, Italy, contains over 60 hand-crafted inventions built from Leonardo’s 500 year old designs and is the life work of three generations of Florentine artisans, who have painstakingly brought to life the creations by the brilliant scientist, inventor and artist Leonardo DaVinci.
With over 60 machines on display, many of which are interactive, the collection features replicas of the major and most striking inventions of the original Renaissance Man. The main features on display include the “bicycle”, “spring powered car”, “hang glider” and the “air screw”, a precursor to the helicopter and for the first time ever, the secrets behind Leonardo’s legendary robotic lion.
This exhibition presents over 60 models grouped in themes: War machines, Flying machines, Nautical & Hydraulic machines, as well as devices illustrating the Principles of Mechanics. The interactive machines are a popular aspect of each exhibition as visitors can touch and handle these models to gain a first-hand appreciation of how they work. Explanatory notes and illustrative panels with Leonardo’s drawings accompany each model. read more…

Yes there will be another Full Moon – September 29, 2012 at 8:18 P.M. Las Vegas time.
From The Old Farmer’s Almanac:
The Full Corn Moon corresponds with the time of harvesting corn. It is also called the Barley Moon, because it is the time to harvest and thresh the ripened barley.
This month, we also celebrate what we call a Harvest Moon, which is the full Moon nearest the autumnal equinox. It can occur in September or October and is bright enough to allow finishing all the harvest chores.
The Full Harvest Moon is different than all our other full Moons. Around this date, the Moon rises at almost the same time for a number of nights in our northern latitudes. Learn more in our article, Shine on Harvest Moon
From Western Washington University:
American Indians gave names to each of the full moons to keep track of the passing year. The names are associated with the entire month until the next full moon occurs. Since a lunar month averages 29 days, the dates of the moons change from year to year. Here are titles most closely associated with calendar months. [Two of those names are mentioned here]
Back East
Mohawk, Eastern Woodlands
According to WWU: in the Mohawk language the word for this months moon is, seskhoko:wa (time of much freshness)
Out West
Tlingit, Pacific Northwest Coast
According to WWU: in the Tlingit language the word for this months moon is, dis yádi (big moon)
Shine on Harvest Moon, Ruth Etting
“This song was first introduced by Nora Bayes and songwriter-husband, Jack Norworth in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1908. Ruth Etting’s performance of the song in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1931 was a tribute to Nora Bayes. The 1931 production of the Follies was the last to be produced under the direction Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr.; he died shortly thereafter in 1932. It’s interesting to note that Nora Bayes recorded this song for Victor in 1910 but it was never released.”
I’ll be out there at the appropriate time looking at the Moon, will you?
Our tent area in the rear (west) parking lot has doubled to 50 tents as more exhibitors from further away have joined the show.
But be sure to see BOTH levels inside the Coliseum where you’ll find another 100 dealers.
Our miners, prospectors, fossil preparators, gem cutters, importers, quarrymen, and artisans have been working all year for this show.
Please bring your checkbook and help support these hard working folks.
After all, parking and entrance is free!
The Denver Coliseum has space for 150 dealers inside and 150 more dealers outside in parking lot tents.
This is the #2 most advertised mineral, fossil, and jewelry show in the USA (#1 is our NY / NJ Gem & Mineral Show).
But our table fees are the lowest in Denver due to our economies of scale and genuine concern for the success of our dealers.
Only 5 minutes from the Merchandise Mart shows via Washington Street.

In my mind way up on top of that pedestal those irresistible, slinky, rock & roll back-up singers never seem to get the credit they deserve.Carolyn Leonhart (aka Lyn Leon)
From ALuckyDogLife.Blogsotop.Com
“Did I mention that Steely Dan is a favorite? Or that I have a thing for red leather? And that I always seem to focus on the female backup singers as much as the star of the show when attending a concert ? I’m working on that with my shrink” Well, check out the middle backup singer in the Kid Charlemagne video below. Red leather pants and a rock babe attitude. Oh my. You get to enjoy a great song, too. [Sorry I don’t have the other gals names in this song.]
From LVBC:
She is the great back-up, girl singer/singer Caroline Leonheart-Escoffery with features as fine as wisps of smoke, who moves like gentle ocean waves, and who blooms like a flower at Steely Dan’s live shows and elsewhere. A singer in her own right, she has soothed us with so many righteous STEELY DAN SONGS.
Here she is taking the lead on the soulful DIRTY WORK singing with the other Embassy Brats: Cindy Mizelle, and Catherine Russell.
Walter Becker introduces the band, including Caroline Leonheart-Escoffery and Cindy Mizelle on Steely Dan – Hey nineteen Live
The Embassy Brats are:Carolyn Leonhart, Cindy Mizelle, and Catherine Russell.
The beyond fine drumming on Kid Charlemagne by Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. And the ridiculously out-of this-world guitar solo is by rock virtuoso, Larry Carlton, I think.
THIS WEEKEND: 9th Annual Festival Italiano this Sat & Sun, September 8th & 9th from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

From the Festival’s Website:
Join us in celebrating the sights, sounds and flavors of Italy with our 9th Annual Festival Italiano September 8th & 9th, 10:00am – 7:00pm.
This year’s event will feature Italian food and artisan vendors, wine tastings, chef demonstrations, Balistreri Vineyard’s Children’s Grape Stomp, performances by the flag throwers from Florence and much more.
From the LasVegasBuffetClub: This is an annual event in a California-style outdoor-mall in Southwest Denver with food-booths, booze and entertainment, lots of laughs and fun. The kids can stomp grapes, old-kids can drink the stomped grapes and a good time can be had for all. Mall restaurants are open for more food choices. Purchase cheeses, breads and other take-home foods at vendors-booths. Lotsa Pizza!
Bang! Heineken does it again… “Love Letter” by Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes is featured in a beer TV commercial. Clairy Browne is a red-hot 50s rock & roll diva in 2012.
Here’s Clairy Browne, in the big house, as a blonde. The music seems to be a bit different than it is in the commercial, with more guitar and a bit less of the big horn. This video also seems to be tighter and the back-up girls are more in-sync.
This chick/band is the real-deal for reals. Bringing to mind the late, Amy Winehouse, Clairy Browne belongs to the 50s. I have a new screensaver.
This next video is closer to the Heineken ad; there is more of that big sax, and THE BIG BLACK HAIR. The drum and sax work so well together, like they’ve been tuned. I guess one can tune drums, to a point.
And here’s the high-quality Heineken commercial. It’s a very slick, silky video with great resolution and content. Clairy Browne is irresistible as the brunette vamp.
There will be yet another Full Moon Aug 31, 6:57 A.M. Las Vegas time.
“The August 31 Blue Moon will not be blue in color. This August 2012 Blue Moon will be called Blue because it is the second full moon of a month.”
The following article is from Earthsky.Org
According to modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the second full moon of a calendar month. Learn how this name came to be, in this post. The next Blue Moon is August 31, 2012.
August 2012 is a month with two full moons. And, by popular acclaim, that means it’s a Blue Moon month – but it’s Blue in name only. That’s because a Blue Moon is sometimes defined as the second full moon in a calendar month. The first full moon is August 1. The second full moon is August 31, 2012.
It’s very rare that you would see a blue-colored moon, although unusual sky conditions – certain-sized particles of dust or smoke – can create them. Blue-colored moons aren’t predictable. [So don’t be misled by the photo above.] The sorts of moons people commonly call Blue Moons aren’t usually blue. For more about truly blue-colored moons, click here.
Now on to folklore’s Blue Moons. Every month typically has a full moon (although sometimes February doesn’t). In fact, our word for “month” comes from the word “moon.” Most of the time, the names for full moons coincide with particular months or seasons of the year. So whether you define a Blue Moon as the second full moon in a month – or the third full moon of four in a season – the name Blue Moon accounts for times when there are more full moons than is ordinary.
Blue moon as second full moon in a month.[sic] In recent decades, many people have begun using the name Blue Moon to describe the second full moon of a calendar month.
“There are two more definitions for Blue Moon. It can be the third of four full moons in a single season. Or, someday, you might see an actual blue-colored moon.” read more from Earthsky.Org
From LasVegasBuffetClub.Com:
“Blue Moon” is a classic popular song. It was written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934, and has become a standard ballad. The song has been covered as a released single by artists such as Billie Holiday, Mel Torme, Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard. In popular culture, the song has featured in musical films such as Grease and “Blue Moon” is sung by Crewe Alexandra fans, whilst also being regarded as the anthem of Manchester City Football Club read more from WIKI…
Woman rejected over 30 times from job fires back with counter-offer: ‘suck my d—’
Taylor Grey Meyer’s missive to the Padres went viral, and now she is fielding offers — but not from the Padres, who turned her down repeatedly and then sent her an invite to a job fair costing $495.
By Meena Hart Duerson / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Taylor Grey Meyer
Taylor Grey Meyer had had enough, and she wasn’t going to take it anymore.
The 31-year-old Southern California resident with a master’s degree in sports management had been trying to get a job – any job – since December when she got a letter from a prospective employer that made her snap.
After being rejected by the San Diego Padres baseball team over 30 times for a variety of jobs in every area from sales to selling tickets, Meyer received an email from the team inviting her to pay $495 to attend a “Combine,” or glorified hiring fair, where they told her she would meet employers and have a chance at one of 50 jobs they were looking to fill.
“I’d just had it,” Meyer told the Daily News. “I felt like, in this market especially, that employers – the Padres – were preying on job seekers who were desperate for jobs.”
She quickly fired off a harsh response, full of the pent-up aggression that had been building up during her unemployment.
“After careful review, I must decline,” she wrote back to the Padres’ email. “I realize I may be burning a bridge here, but in the spirit of reciprocity, I would like to extend you a counter-offer to suck my d—.”
